NYC Dogs and Community Meeting « Result #2 on May 9, 2009, 2:35pm »
Hello All....
This morning, Margaret Walker and I attended a City-wide Roundtable discussion on Dog Parks and Dog Policy around the 5 Boroughs. We also toured the recently renovated dogrun at Tompkins Square Park -- which is GORGEOUS and cost just under 1/2 a million bucks.
So -- as the summer approaches and more of us will be using the Dogrun, it might be wise to hold a meeting to see if we can accomplish several things that have been on the table for a long while.
Among those things:
1) I met with the person in charge of PEP (Park Enforcement Patrol) and explained the situation regarding professional dog walkers who come to our Park with more than 5 dogs. He promised to send someone over to assess the situation. He also promised to get us a newer sign that explicitly states that no more than 3 dogs per person are allowed into the Dog run. This is a City-wide policy, apparently, and the reason our sign does not say that is because it was made before this policy was put into effect.
More on PEP: Their direct number is: (646) 613-1386. Any problems other than emergencies (911) should be directed to that number. By the way, I also learned that the reason there is a 5-block perimeter around the Dog run where all off-leash is prohibited stems from a City-wide policy (not law) that stated that there would be NO off-leash permitted in any Park that had a dogrun. The 5-block perimeter was a compromise to this 'policy.'
2) The long-awaited watering station.... Meg is going to speak with the Parks Coordinator to find out how we need to proceed.
3) Benches / Hoses / dog bowls, etc.... (Michael & Judy are working on the benches & bowls... yes?)
4) Future Fund-raising events....
etc.
Please -- if you a not already registered on the 105 Dog Run website, please do so. And, tell other people you meet to register as well. I will be contacting you shortly about our next meeting and posting it on the website. If you do not wish to be on this list, just reply to this email and let me know.
AIDS Walk NYC « Result #3 on Feb 10, 2009, 11:51am »
Hello All, For the past several years I have participated in the annual AIDS walk and have raised over $6,000 over the years. I intend to walk again -- and want to ask you to join me...
This year, I am forming a new team -- a team of dog owners on the Upper West Side. Won't you consider joining the walk with me -- with or without your dog? There is no minimum pledge or fee to join, but you can register to be a 'Star Walker' which means you pledge to raise a minimum of $1,000.

Disturbing event in the Run « Result #4 on Oct 4, 2008, 10:42am »
There is a rumor going around that a dog was killed in the run. I've heard that either a rat terrier or a min pin was killed by a rottweiler or a rotty mix.
I've also heard that the dog that killed the smaller dog was walked by one of the dog walkers.
If anyone has first hand information about this tragic event, please let me know.
I need to know who was in charge of the aggressive dog and who was in charge of the victim. If anyone saw this happen, please provide details.
Block Party: Leash & Stroller parade « Result #6 on Oct 10, 2007, 6:23am »
West 100th Street is having a block party from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 13), between Riverside Drive and West End. At noon, Toby (the friendly beagle) and I are leading a Leash & Stroller parade from the Firemen's Memorial to West End. Bring your dogs and/or kids!
There's rummage, refreshments and T-shirts for sale, along with face-painting and other family-friendly type activities. Rain date is Sunday. Proceeds go to neighborhood maintenance and beautification projects. And please spread the word along to anyone who might be interested, especially Upper West Side residents.

Run Cleanup « Result #7 on Sept 16, 2007, 8:43am »
There was a pretty good turnout at the run cleanup on Saturday. Thanks to everyone who participated.
Leaves are falling, though, and we need a little continuing help. So, if you're in there and your dog is busy entertaining itself, please grab a rake and gather up a few leaves for a couple of days. The new surface material is coming and it's best if it's applied over a clean surface.

Re: The Pool « Result #8 on Sept 10, 2007, 9:29pm »
It would be great to have a place where dogs could swim, but we can't really fit one of those in the dog run. We can, with a lot of work and money, make a cleaner place for them to get wet.
Re: The Pool « Result #9 on Sept 10, 2007, 8:39am »
Hi. I have a three year old Chocolate Lab, Mika, who LOVES the pool. This is really the only place in the city that we can walk to where she can get wet and "swim", which is so nice in the summer since the heat makes it hard for dogs to be outside too long or get much excercise. It's true the water can get dirty and added to the dusty surface of the run, Mika always gets a bath, as soon as we get home, when she has been in the pool. It would be great if there was a permanent pool, big enough for large dogs to really swim, somewhere in the city....
