Hello All....
This morning, Margaret Walker and I attended a City-wide Roundtable discussion on Dog Parks and Dog Policy around the 5 Boroughs. We also toured the recently renovated dogrun at Tompkins Square Park -- which is GORGEOUS and cost just under 1/2 a million bucks.
So -- as the summer approaches and more of us will be using the Dogrun, it might be wise to hold a meeting to see if we can accomplish several things that have been on the table for a long while.
Among those things:
1) I met with the person in charge of PEP (Park Enforcement Patrol) and explained the situation regarding professional dog walkers who come to our Park with more than 5 dogs. He promised to send someone over to assess the situation. He also promised to get us a newer sign that explicitly states that no more than 3 dogs per person are allowed into the Dog run. This is a City-wide policy, apparently, and the reason our sign does not say that is because it was made before this policy was put into effect.
More on PEP: Their direct number is: (646) 613-1386. Any problems other than emergencies (911) should be directed to that number. By the way, I also learned that the reason there is a 5-block perimeter around the Dog run where all off-leash is prohibited stems from a City-wide policy (not law) that stated that there would be NO off-leash permitted in any Park that had a dogrun. The 5-block perimeter was a compromise to this 'policy.'
2) The long-awaited watering station.... Meg is going to speak with the Parks Coordinator to find out how we need to proceed.
3) Benches / Hoses / dog bowls, etc.... (Michael & Judy are working on the benches & bowls... yes?)
4) Future Fund-raising events....
etc.
